Passing of Past Commodore, Joe McGrath

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Joe McGrath on January 7, 2013 in Philadelphia.  Joe was a great friend and mentor to many of us at the club as well as a Past Commodore, a long time member of the Board of Governors and a great sailor for years at the club.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Peggy and her family.

  1. We will surely miss seeing Joe’s smiling face at the end of the bar at the club. He always greeted us with such warmth and made us feel very welcomed.

  2. Joe was a great friend and mentor, supporting and challenging us to do our best for the Club and its families. He spoke passionately about the importance of having a youth sailing program that “taught racing”, and the great strides the club is making in that respect are the best imaginable tribute we could pay to this wonderful friend. He has left a huge void with his passing.

  3. I’m guessing that there are many former GWYC commodores that credit that job to not being able to say no to Joe McGrath. He will be missed!
